Austin is now the 11th largest city in the U.S., but its convention center ranked 60th in size. That’s changing soon:

  • Old Convention center is planned to be demolished in March 2025
  • New facility will double the size, catapulting Austin to the 35th largest convention center
  • Expected completion is mid-to-late 2028

Mega Infrastructure Projects: What to Expect

  • I-35 Expansion
  • Airport Expansion-More Flights, More Convenience(Full completion expected by 2030)
  • Austin Light Rail
    • Phase 1: A 10 mile stretch with 15 stops, connecting downtown, UT, and the convention center
    • Construction plans to kick off in 2027, with full operation by 2033
    • Expected to trigger the development of 50,000 housing units by 2045 and create 10,000 jobs
